Our Candidate: EVONNE HOPKINS
- Family Law Background: Evonne owns and operates the Raleigh Law Center as a North Carolina Board certified Family Law Specialist. She also volunteers with “The Child’s Advocate,” representing children in high conflict custody cases.
- Pro-Choice: Evonne is a strong believer in the importance of protecting access to reproductive healthcare and in women’s freedom.
- Public Education Supporter: Evonne is dedicated to funding our public schools and opposes the use of school vouchers that benefit families that don’t need them. She believes teachers deserve higher pay and better working conditions.
- Environmentalist: Evonne supports clean energy, clean water and clean air. She aims to pursue innovative transit solutions to North Carolina’s growing population and preserving its natural beauty for generations to come.
- Democratic Champion: Evonne will work to ensure all North Carolinians have their voices heard at the ballot box and opposes gerrymandering and other election tampering efforts.
- Small Business Advocate: As a small business owner, Evonne supports small business that invest in their community and will promote legislation that makes it easier to stay in business.
- Evonne is the recipient of Legal Aid’s 2023 Pro Bono Hero Award for her work with The Child’s Advocate.
Our Opponent: Mike Schietzelt
- A reliable Republican vote in the North Carolina General Assembly, dismantling rights for North Carolinians. Schietzelt campaigned for Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson in the primary campaign.
- Schietzelt is anti-abortion with limited exceptions for rape, incest and the health of the mother. He authored an amicus brief to the Supreme Court in the Dobbs case that ultimately overturned Roe vs. Wade.
- Schietzelt has ties to the January 6 insurrection. He previously clerked for Mike Martin, who played a key role in Donald Trump’s attempt to overturn the 2020 election results. Martin wrote lawsuits challenging the results in key states.
- Schietzelt opposes gun control measures and restrictions on assault weapons.
- If elected Schietzelt will vote against LGBTQ+ rights in the General Assembly.
