Lorenza Wilkins- HD25
Dr. Lorenza Wilkins is an equity-driven servant leader and inductee into the National Society of Leadership and Success. He also serves on the Leadership Council of the National Small Business Association (NSBA). As a 2018 participant in the National Opportunity Youth Forum hosted by the Aspen Institute (Aspen, CO), Dr. Wilkins is forever committed to philanthropy and service to the common good of all humanity.
Our Candidate: Lorenza Wilkins
- Longtime Nash County Resident: Dr. Lorenza Wilkins was born in nearby Lake Gaston, N.C. and has lived in Nash County for more than 22 years.
- Community Involvement: Lorenza has been involved in the community through his work with a number of organizations. He currently serves as Chief Officer of People and Culture at the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle. He also serves as Board Chair at the Reintegration Support Network. He is a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success.
- Education advocate: Lorenza is dedicated to education, including serving as a STEM educator teaching robotics engineering to youths in Nash County.
- Dedicated to local business: Lorenza is passionate about the role of small businesses in civic pride and engagement. He will work to create an environment where small businesses have every chance at success throughout North Carolina.
- Education Advocate: Lorenza believes the school voucher program is harming the public school system. He wants to strengthen public schools by making more funding available and paying teachers higher wages to keep the best educators in our public schools.
- Reproductive Rights Protector: Lorenza believes that medical decisions should be made between a patient and their doctor. He will work to keep the state and court system out of the decision-making process and protect bodily autonomy.
- Strongly Endorsed: Lorenza is endorsed by Carolina Forward, the NC State AFL-CIO, Work for Democracy, Planned Parenthood and Climate Cabinet.
Our Opponent: Allen Chesser II
- Reliable voter for the extremist Republican agenda in the General Assembly in his first term.
- Compromised ethics. After taking his seat in the legislature, Chesser accepted a management role with a company owned by the Mayor of Rocky Mount.
- Strongly supports Mark Robinson, often featuring him on his social media channels.
- Strongly opposed to abortion rights, referring to unborn children as “pre-born” and claiming they have constitutional rights. He has not publicly mentioned any exceptions to his anti-abortion stance, including for rape, incest or health of the mother.
- Was the primary sponsor of the permit permit repeal bill, making it easier than ever to acquire handguns in North Carolina.
